Humphrey Lake is a nearby reservoir where I take my dog for a walk at least 5 days a week. This gives me the chance to make long term observations about the wildlife.
Last summer we had a colony of Double-Crested Cormorants living on the small rock island in the lake. They left in the fall, and this spring I’ve been keeping track of their return date. Two of them flew over the lake on May 22, 2015, and on the 23rd four of them took up residency on their rock (see photo). This morning (5-25-150 I spotted a fifth cormorant circling the lake before landing on the water. Really handy having these guys so close. Good comparative specimens for the video about the flightless cormorants of the Galapagos I’m working on.
